Shira — 7 Days
Lemosho's quieter, less-used sister route — starting higher via a rugged 4x4 track onto the Shira Plateau, then joining the same scenic southern circuit toward the summit.
Day-by-day itinerary
Shira Gate → Shira 2 Camp
A rough 4x4 drive up the western slopes to Shira Gate, then a walk across the open plateau, already above 3,500m.
Rest & Acclimatize on the Shira Plateau
Because Shira starts so high, most climbers take an easy exploration day here before pushing on.
Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
Climb high to the Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending into the lush Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
Scramble up the famous Barranco Wall, then traverse ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp.
Acclimatization Day at Karanga
A gentle rest day to let your body fully adjust before the final push to Barafu.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Push on to Barafu base camp, rest, then summit overnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise before descending.
Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate
A final descent through the forest to Mweka Gate for your summit certificate.
