Day-by-day itinerary
Londorossi Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp
A short drive to the trailhead, then an easy first walk through pristine, rarely-visited rainforest.
Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 Camp
Climb out of the forest onto the wide, open Shira Plateau, with sweeping views back toward the Rift Valley.
Shira 1 → Shira 2 Camp
A gentle day crossing the Shira Plateau itself, with optional side trips and excellent views of Kibo ahead.
Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
Climb high to the Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending into the lush Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
Scramble up the famous Barranco Wall, then traverse ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Push on to Barafu base camp, rest, then summit overnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise before descending.
Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate
A final descent through the forest to Mweka Gate for your summit certificate.
