Marangu — 6 Days
The only Kilimanjaro route with hut accommodation rather than tents. A gentler ascent and descent on the same well-maintained path — a solid choice for first-time high-altitude trekkers.
Day-by-day itinerary
Marangu Gate → Mandara Hut
Register at Marangu Gate and walk up through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut, spotting colobus monkeys along the way.
Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut
Leave the forest behind for open moorland, with clear views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks on a fair-weather day.
Acclimatization Day at Horombo
A short walk up toward Zebra Rocks and back to help your body adjust before heading higher.
Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut
Cross the alpine desert of "The Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach base camp, then rest early for the summit push.
Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut
Depart around midnight for the summit push, reaching Uhuru Peak — the roof of Africa — around sunrise, then descend all the way to Horombo the same day.
Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate
Descend back through the moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate.
