Machame — 6 Days
Kilimanjaro's most scenic and popular route, camping the whole way and crossing the dramatic Barranco Wall en route to Barafu Camp for the summit push.
Day-by-day itinerary
Machame Gate → Machame Camp
Enter through dense montane rainforest, gaining altitude steadily on a muddy, root-laced trail to your first camp.
Machame Camp → Shira Camp
Climb out of the forest onto the open Shira Plateau, with your first big views of Kibo's summit dome.
Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
The classic "climb high, sleep low" day — up to the Lava Tower for acclimatization, then down into the Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
A short but thrilling scramble up the Barranco Wall, followed by rolling ridges to Karanga Camp for an early rest.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Reach Barafu base camp, rest briefly, then set off after midnight for the summit, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise before a long descent.
Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate
A final forested descent to Mweka Gate, where your crew celebrates with you and issues your summit certificate.
